During class this week, a majority of our time will be spent focusing on writing and understanding how important it is to captivate our audience. People are rarely going to want to read something if they find it boring!
We will discuss hooks and how they are designed to grasp and pull something--- and in this case it is the reader's attention. Hooks are so vital to writing because they arouse curiosity and interest in readers and give them that I can't put it down feeling.
This week I want you to read the following writing prompt and draft a catchy introductory paragraph. Think of all the various hooks we have discussed and choose one to best grasp the attention of your reader (quotation, anecdote, startling fact, analogy, question). Your paragraph must be at least 8 sentences long and contain a thesis statement or claim, which is the main idea that the rest of your essay will explain in more detail. Feel free to comment on each others' and advise or encourage your classmates!
BE ADVISED: YOU ARE NOT WRITING A WHOLE ESSAY. You are just responsible for 8 sentences that will HOOK the reader and state your thesis/claim.
WRITING PROMPT
Imagine that for one day you could trade places with anyone
you choose. The person could be real or imaginary, from the past or from the
present.
In a well-developed composition, identify the person you
would want to trade places with, explain why you would like to trade places
with this person, and describe how your day would be different as this person.

Who would you be if you could be anybody in the whole entire world? I would be Kortigo Velandez. Kortigo is the most admirable person I know. His net worth is about 3.5 billion dollars. He made this money with stocks and investments. He also owns a airplane company. He is also a very charitable soul. On Sundays he teaches underprivileged children how to play baseball. He lives on a villa in Mexico with a vineyard in the back . He is so awesome some of his awesomeness radiates off on to other people and together we can use this to make the world one big ball of awesome.

Also because i would be on TV and movies.Also I would have people taking pictures of me and also I would be one of the best skate boarders in the world and then I would these awesome cars what he had in my back yard I would have this huge skate park.Also this would change my day because I would be able to get anything that I would want with the money and also I would have people fallowing me to get photographs of me also I would be better at skate boarding so the next thing people would take videos of me skating.Thats who I would want to be if I could be any one who I would want to be.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever wanted to be someone else? Because they're rich or they're famous? If I could be someone, anyone even a made up person, I would be Earagon. He is a character in the Inheritance series. He is so cool because he is a dragon rider. Also he can use magic and spells. If I was him imagine how awesome I would be and how much everyone would like me. Not everyone gets to be a dragon rider and I think it would be cool if I was.
ReplyDeleteDo you get down on yourself and wish you were somebody else? When it happens to me I wish I was Tom Brady. Tom is my favorite sports player and he makes milions of dollars every year. Everyday I would play football in practice or against another team. I would always be wearing my 3 super bowl rings and keep my MVP awards somewhere safe. Not everybody has won multiple superbowls and makes 68 cents per second but if I could I would have an exciting life.

It would be amazing and that's why if I could trade places with someone for a day it would be a famous singer or rapper like Nicki Minaj.

If I were able to be Selena Gomez because she is famous and good actress. To be famous would be cool because you have money and most likely a large house. ReplyDeleteIf I could be anybody in the world it would be Cam Mc'caul because he is my favorite pro downhill mountain bike rider and that is my favorite sport. He has just one the biggest competition of the year red bull rampage in Nevada.He also works at my favorite place to ride Highland mountain bike park. And the camp instructor at ayr academy, one of the worlds best mountain biking camps. That is why I would want to be him.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever wanted to be someone else even if it was for just one day?Ever winder what it would be like to be someone that's rich and famous or someone way different than you.If I were able to be Adam Sandler because he does so many movies and tv shows.It would be awesome to be famous because you have so much money And you would live in a huge mansion.I definitely think it would be awesome to be Adam Sandler.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever wondered what it would be like if you were only about a foot tall and weighed about 15 pounds? Well, most people probably haven't really thought about it but I definitely have. Every morning when I walk out the door to go to school I'm greeted by my cat Tiger. I pet him and then he wanders off into the woods and I really want to know what he does all day. Could he be sleeping in a tree or playing with other cats? I have no idea but it sure would be great to figure it out. This is why I think it would be fun to trade places with my cat tiger for a day.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever wondered what it would be like to live as a famous gymnast? I know I do almost every day. Just imagine taking the gold medal for the United States. The rush of excitement and shock taking over. It would be just amazing to know you accomplished your lifelong dream. Wouldn’t it? That is why I would take the place of Shawn Johnson. Shawn Johnson is a fantastic gymnast!
ReplyDeleteHave you ever wanted to be someone famous for a day. I would want to be Robin Williams. Because he's rich and is so odd. It would be awesome to see what he does in his every day life. Plus I'm not really his biggest fan so I want to see if being him for a day would make me like him more. I would also like to see if he could act normal for once. He probably can but not in any of his movies I've seen. That's why I would want to be Robin Williams.
ReplyDeleteWould't it be fun to be any famous person for a day?!Well if that one day ever happened to me I would want to be Micheal Jordan!!Micheal Jordan has awesome basketball skills.He was one of the NBA's top scorers.He made unbelievable dunks and shots.When it came to basketball Micheal was very smart.He practiced all his life whenever he could to become a legend!I hope to someday be as goog as him and be succesful.He is now retired but has a lot of money.If I was ever him I would buy all the things I've ever wanted!!That is why i would want to be Micheal Jordan for a day.

I would be him cause i really like hockey and he's my favorite player. He's my favorite player cuase he scores a lot and he is fast! I would also want to be him cause he's famous!
ReplyDeleteDon't you think that it would be amazing to be a different person for a day? I would probably be one of those blue monkeys that lived on Pandora from the movie Avatar. It would be so cool to fly dragon like creatures. It would be awesome to jump and swing on vines. To hunt with bows and arrows would be cool. I would also like to be there a night to see all the plants and animals light up. It would interesting to have blue skin too. It would be the best to become an Avatar for a day.
