First Memory

We have been studying poetry on and off for quite some time now. Much of poetry deals with self reflection and self expression. I want you to dig deep into your memory bank and try to recall your earliest memory. Describe what occurred. Discuss (about) how old you were and what was going on at the time. Incorporate sensory language to clue your readers in on what you were feeling, seeing, tasting, touching and hearing at the time.

Your post must be NO LESS than 10 sentences this week! If you choose, you may write it as a poem (no less than 10 lines). It is due Friday 4/12 by 5pm!

  1. My first memory is of me at one of my birthday parties. I don't know which birthday, but it was probably 2-3. The party was at my house and after a few people came, I got really scared. Even though they were relatives/family friends, I still barely knew them. So, I hid under the dining room table for a while and I was trying to see who was there by the their feet. My mom probably got scared because she didn't see me, but she eventually found me. I remember being scared from all the people but I got used to it and we had the cake and birthday things, people began to leave. I guess I thought that everyone was going to stay, because I was really sad when everyone left.

  2. It was a warm sunny day out and I was about three or four years, walking home from a friend's house. At this time I was still living in Africa,so there were always animals around us.On the way home I noticed a baby monkey picking bananas,so I decided to grab a banna when he wasnt looking. What I didn't relize was that the monkey's mom was laying in a nearby tree watching it's baby.As soon as I grabbed a banana I crept away slowly. As I started to run the monkey's mom jumped down from its resting spot and started chasing me.I didn't notice I was being chased until the monkey was a few feet away from me.As soon as I turned I saw the angry face the monkey possesed,so I turned and ran as fast as I could creaming my head off.As I got closer to my house my granmother came out after hearing all the screaming and saw me sprinting towards her.My grandmother started yelling at me because I still had the banana in my hand and that was what the mom was trying to get from me.I really wanted that banana so I just held on to it and ran inside. My family was not able to go outside for awhile because all these monkeys had gathered around my house waiting with anger for that one banana. After a long time of waiting I decided to get rid of the banana,I tossed the fruit out the window and after awhile the monkeys slowly started leaving. This was one of my earliest memories of my childhood.

My earliest memory is of me when I was at Hershey park with my parents.I don’t exactly remember how old I was but I think I was about 3 years old.I remember walking around the center of Hershey park and being around the ferris wheel.I was standing in line waiting to get on.So I get to the front of the line and i was standing there with my parents for about a half hour. Then as get ready to go own we get pulled offf and the people who were letting everyone on said I can’t go on becuase I was too short. So after that I walked around the park and I remembered that there was I think only 1 ride that I could go on.Then as we were on our way out I remember seeing the tootsie roll.It was only a guy that was dressed in a tootsie roll costume who was walking around the park talknig to al of the little kids who were ther and it was actually pretty cool. That’s my earliest memory of my childhood.

  4. My first memory is during my preschool years. I was about 4 or 6. It was lunch time. me and about 13 other kids were gathered around a green table. The table is much like the ones at Omaley but instead of several small benches it had on long bench on each side. i was eating my lunch along with the other children when my ear started to ache. I told the teacher and she looked at it. She thought I had an ear infection. So she called up my mom and 15 or 20 minutes later my mom arrived. My mom took a look at my ear and she agreed I had an ear infection. The two of us left my preschool (the name of which name I forget) and headed to Beverly hospital. The Doctor looked in my ear and set it in stone. I had an ear infection. So she said some stuff to my mom that I didn't understand and gave us some medication. We finally went home where I relaxed for the rest of the day and the next one.

  5. One of my earliest memories is of me sitting in a Tigger chair when I was about 3 or 2. I don't remember what I was doing but I was just sitting there. Another memory was a weird dream about the Easter Bunny. I don't remember how old I was but I was around 5. In the dream I was in my room and suddenly the Easter bunnies head popped up the stairs. I got up and followed it down stairs into the living room. I can remember the Bunny looked really distorted, almost like a monster. It looked about 6 feet tall. But once I got to the living room the Bunny was gone and there was a hole in the window. There was a little Easter basket on the floor. I cant remember what type of Candy was in it, but I do remember being afraid to eat it based on how scary the Easter bunny had looked. One last early memory I had was another dream where my mom and two of my aunts broke out of the basement and ran away, ditching me in a huge blizzard leaving me to die in the heavy piles of snow I was stuck in, trying to make my way to them. I was calling out to them but they never turned back. This dream scarred me for a long time. Those are a few of my earliest memories.

  6. It was snowy outside and I had just got to my grandmother's house. Yhat day was my cousin Luke's first birthday. Every kid there was playing outside in the white snow. My cousins were sledding, getting ready to ambush others, and just having fun. We even were climbing up on the roof of the house and jumping on our Uncle Dan or as we called him, Dirty Dan. As we got called inside we were sad but excited because we were all hungry to eat some pizza. We watched the Celtics game as they killed the Magic. When it was time to eat cake, we were all ready. We sang the song and eventually my cousin ate the candles. Finally we ate and were satisfied. That is my first memory.

  7. My first memory I was 2. I was walking down to my bus stop with my mom to drop my sister off.It was very dark. I was wearing a fluffy black coat and green pants. My sister was wearing pink. It was cold out because I think it was march. After my sister got on the bus the wind picked up and it started to rain. So we went back up the street to my house. I can’t really remember what I do after that. That was my first memory.

  8. One of my earliest memories was on hot sunny day in Disney World. I was about 3 years old and I was very restless from walking around the park all day. We went on so many rides and had a great time. That was until I was eating at the restaurant named Ohana, to end my amazing day when, all of the sudden I got out of my seat for at least 1 minute just to say hi to my other relatives. When I was heading back to my seat, I looked up and Mickey must not have seen me as he was walking and fell on top of me. It was really scary since he was so much taller than me. I remember just crying and crying because it scared me a lot. Also, the Disney character felt terrible. I remember this memory like it was yesterday.

  9. My first memory that I can remember is when I was about two or three. My mom brought me to a toy store because she needed to find something to give my cousin for her birthday. As we were going down one of the aisles I noticed on one of the shelves there were a bunch of stuffed dogs. Some were purple and others were pink. As my mom pushed the carriage by I grabbed one of the purple ones. I held onto it the whole time we were in the store. When we got to the register to pay for my cousin's toy my mom realized I was hugging the purple stuffed dog. She tried to put it back but I sat there and looked at her with a sad face saying “No mine.” My mom gave in a said I could keep it. I was so excited. I named the dog purple puppy and I still have it today.

  10. My earliest memory was when I was 4 years old. I walked into my preschool holding my moms hand with my glasses on. It was my first day with glasses and I thought that I looked like a fool, but when I saw my bestfriend Tres, he commented on my new glasses and said how cool they were. That made my day because it boosted up my attitude about how I felt about whereing glasses. That day some big kid at the preeschool named Jake bullied me about having the glasses,he pushed me into the little tikes play house and made me unconcious. He also gave me a concusion. That was my earliest memory as a child...I didn't uncle jimmy this.

  11. One of my first memories is when I was about 5 years old and I lost my first tooth. I noticed that my tooth was wigley. Then one night my tooth was ready to come out. I was so scared, because I didn’t know they were supposed to come out. I rushed to my mom and dad and started crying and I told them my tooth is wigley. They calmed me down and said that they are supposed to come out. I was so excited about it, because the tooth fairy was going to come and give me money. I rushed to my room and put my tooth underneath my pillow and fell right to sleep. The next day I looked under my pillow and there was a dollar. I was so happy that I lost my first tooth and got money for it. I couldn’t wait to go to school and tell all my friends about it.

  12. One of my first memories was when I was 3. I was an big plane with only my mother. We were flying from Austria to the Czech Republic to see my grandmother. I was wearing this blue dress but by the end of the flight it was gray. I was gray because I felt really sick and was constantly throwing up. I remember I really liked to drink apple sauce. All I was doing was drinking apple sauce and throwing up. Thank god the plan ride was short. I really feel sorry for my mom. She was the only one there and she had to take care of a child that was always throwing up.These was one of my unpleasant early memory.

  14. My earliest memory that I can remember is when i was just about 3 yrs old and it was about 10 o'clock pm. My mom was cooking something and my dad was remodeling the living room. I was playing ball with my sister when i hear scratching at the door. I walk over to the screen door and open it. I say "Hello" look down and there she is. The cutest cat I had ever seen. I pick her up and bring her to me dad. I say "can we keep it?" My dad looks down, picks it up and brings it over to mom. We start feeding the cat for quite some time now. Eventually we kept her and named her Luna. My family has had her for 11 yrs and hopefully another 11 to go.
