The Road Not Taken

The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I marked the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

  1. I think the speaker is talking about the road less traveled by people. This is because he explains what the road looks like. For example in stanza 2 line 3 the speaker states, “Because it was grassy and wanted wear,” He is talking about the path not taken. It is grassy and overgrown because people don’t take it. I think that because it is overgrown people don’t want to take it. Which starts a cycle of not taking the road. Sure at the end of the poem the speaker talks about the road he didn’t take. For instance in stanza four line four, “ I took the one less traveled by,” But he never calls it the road not taken.

  2. There are many reasons why I think the poem is titled "The Road Not Taken".One is that there are two paths the person can choose, the road commonly traveled and the road less traveled. To get to each road the person has to make a series of desicions. When they made the decisions they go down a certain. This person chose the road not taken because he wanted to do what benefit him the most. The road not taken was a less common path and it seems like the person the uncommon path because they are not a common person. Also, both paths often have the same end.Meaning a lot of times no matter what path you decide to take you will end up at the same point.Lastly,I think the poem is called "The Road Not Taken" because the road you take depends on what type of person you are,and this person had chosen "The Road Not Taken".That's why I think the poem is titled "The Road Not Taken".

  3. In "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost, Robert makes the courageous decision to take the road less taken instead of a safer road that has been used more. I believe "The Road Not Taken" is the unused one. Though you may always question the decision the road less traveled on is more adventurous with its "undergrowth" while the other was worn out and only grassy. If I was Robert I would have chosen the road less traveled on because it is more adventurous to take an unknown road than the constantly used road. Also, you may see much more beautiful nature while walking the mysterious less traveled on road. Furthermore, by saying "And that has made all the difference" shows a positive outcome from selecting the road he chose. Clearly, the road not taken was the less traveled on road.

  4. I think the poem was titled "The Road Not Taken" for several reasons. One of those reasons is throughout the poem the poet is talking about two different roads that he had to choose between which got him to where he is today. I believe that in the poem he's talking about choices he had to make and he decided to do something that not everyone does. Also, in the fourth stanza of the poem it says "I took the one less traveled by" This is practically saying the same thing as the title, but it's just worded differently. The road less traveled by is the same thing as the road not taken. If I was the speaker I would take the road that's all grassy and less traveled like he did. I'd take this road because I would want an adventure. I wouldn't want to end up at the same place as everyone else because it's good to make your own choice and not just go along with what everyone else does.

  5. I think that the poem is called the “The Road Not Taken”, because it is talking about the road that nobody takes. The author (Robert Frost) decided to take the road that most people don’t take. It also talks most about the road that nobody takes so the author titled the poem “The Road Not Taken”. Also, at the end of the poem it talks about how the author took it, and it made all the difference. If I had to choose one of the roads I would choose the one that most people take. Also the road that the author was talking about was grassy. I think “The Road Not Taken” is the road less traveled by. Also, I wouldn’t take the road less traveled by because you don’t know what is going to happen.

  6. In the poem "The Road Not Taken" By Robert frost there many reasons why this poem could have been titled that. Firstly, it could of been named that because there was two paths one traveled and one less traveled. He has to pick one path because he may never come back out to try the other. Secondly, it could of been named the becaue there was one road that wasnt taken. In the poem it says there was one road traveled and less traveled. If I were the speacker I would have taken the road less traveled. I would take that road because everyone already knows what the road taken is like but they have not seen the road not taken. Cleary, thats why I would take the road not taken.

  7. I think the speaker is talking about both roads. Because the road he took was not taken by anyone else, meaning in a way it is a road not taken. Then there was the road he took that wasn't taken by anyone. Before he took it, it also was a road not taken. So in a way both roads are not taken.

  8. In the poem The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost he is talking about the road not taken by other people. I think that literally I would take the road more traveled. I would do this because it would give me a sense of security. If he was talking metaphorically I would take the road less traveled. I would do this because I would want to take my own path in life. I would take my own path because I’m different and everybody is different. So since everybody's different everybody takes their own path. So everybody takes their own personal path less traveled by. so that is the path we all take but that is the path that is always different when you get to it.

  9. The road not taken by Robert frost. this amazing poem talks about the road not taken by many people. It talks about the person who doesn't want to be like everyone else. So Robert talks about taking the road not taken because he doesn't want to be like everyone else, he wants to be himself

  10. I think the poem is titled The Road Not Taken because one road didn't look like alot of people travled on it. It also talked about how the other road looked worn and the other was over grown. Alot of people would take the road more travled so one road becomes less travled and one more travled. Therefor, I think he is talking about the road not taken by other people. Most people would take the worn road. I would take the overgrown road. You might see and discover something thet alot of people wouldn't. It will probaly be more of an adventure and you would have more fun.

  11. I think he is talking about the road that was less taken by other people. I think that he is talking about that one because it makes the most sense and if he was talking about the popular road it would be dull and uninteresting to read. Also, I think it is titled that because the road with less footprints and overgrown grass is a road that isn't typically traveled.
